Ranbaxy settles patent dispute with Pfizer over Lipitor, other drugs
India's largest generics durgmaker Rnbaxy Laboratories, which has agreed to become a subsidiary of Japanese drugmaker Daiichi Sankyo for $4.6 billion, pulled off a coup of sorts, announcing it has settled certain patent disputes with Pfizer over its $13 billion blockbuster anti-cholesterol drug Lipitor (generic name Atorvastatin) and other drugs.

Japanese drugmaker Daiichi Sankyo gobbles Ranbaxy Laboratories for $4.6 billion
In what is seen as India's biggest acquisition deal in the pharmaceutical sector, Japanese drugmaker Daiichi Sankyo Co. said it has reached an agreement with India's largest generics drugmaker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. which will see the former acquire the latter's majority stake for around $4.6 billion (£2.3 billion).

Glaxo and Synta drug gets orphan status from FDA
Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline PLC and the American based Synta Pharmaceuticals have said that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted the drug Elesclomol, orphan drug status. Elesclomol is a medicine meant to treat metastatic melanoma.

US May Peg Aid to Mexico Extraditions
