The Sunnyvale, California-based company is accelerating its pace to produce faster products in a shorter time as it battles rival Intel Corp in the business chip market.

AMD will introduce a new six-core "Istanbul" processor in the second half of 2009, followed by a twelve-core "Mangy-Cours" processor, the company said today. The firm expects the new chips to do more work per watt of power.

A new four core processor named "Shanghai" will be released in the second half of 2008, using the smaller, more advanced 45 nm manufacturing process.
