Hong Kong to test the torch relay route tomorrow
HONG KONG - The torch relay's first stop on Chinese soil is Hong Kong on May 2, a community torch relay will be held tomorrow to test the route. The government will have a special traffic arrangement to ensure the relay is conducted in a punctual, dignified and orderly manner, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau says.
The torch will be relay in running , vehicle, dragon boat and ferry by 120 torchbearers. The relay trial run start from 10.30am to 5pm, from the Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui, passing Nathan Road, the Lantau Link, Kap Shui Mun Bridge, Tsing Ma Bridge, the Shing Mun River, the Olympic equestrian venue, the Avenue of Stars, Victoria Harbour, the Legislative Council Building and the Convention & Exhibition Centre to end at Golden Bauhinia Square.
As the relay will pass through busy roads, the Transport Department will adjust and divert public transport services in areas covered by the relay, including service frequency reduction , temporary route truncation, diversion, service suspension or relocation of bus stops.
The relay route has been revised without affecting the coverage of major scenic spots and the traffic to the airport will not be affected.
