Japan Names Tanami as BOJ Governor
Posted 20 March 2008 @ 05:48 pm HKT
(IBTimes) - Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda has nominated former vice finance minister Koji Tanami to head up the Bank of Japan early Tuesday morning.
The government has also nominated BoJ board member Kiyohiko Nishimura as deputy governor, according to Japanese national newswire NHK.
The proposals to the BoJ executive are the second to be put forward by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party after its choice of Toshiro Muto as central bank governor was blocked in the opposition-controlled Upper House last week.
A vote on the nominations will be put to Japan's two houses of parliament Wednesday.
The nominations come one day before Governor Toshihiko Fukui is due to step down as his five-year term expires.
